LIESE NEUFELD (nee REIMER) June 2, 1907 - March 22, 2006 On March 22, 2006 at the age of 98 years Liese Neufeld passed away peacefully at her residence. She was born near Omsk in the village of Margenau in Siberia, Russia to Gerhard and Barbara Reimer. Here she enjoyed her childhood and teenage years. At the age of 14 she accepted Christ as her personal Saviour, was baptized shortly thereafter and joined the Mennonite Brethren Church in Margenau. She enjoyed singing and participated in the church choirs for many years. Due to severe unrest in the country Liese, some of her family and other relatives decided to leave Russia in the fall of 1929. They joined many others who congregated near Moscow and by a miracle of God were able to immigrate to Germany. After a short stay they immigrated to Brazil. In 1932 she married Johann Neufeld. They had six children - three sons and three daughters. Her husband passed away in 1959. In 1966 the family immigrated to Canada. Here she lived across the street from the church, where she enjoyed the fellowship, and regularly participated in the Ladies Group. The last few years she was taken care of by her daughters, even after she was bed ridden. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Elsa Maria, Gerhard (Ruth), Hans (Anni), Viola, Lili (Carl) Thorlakson, Jake Waldemar, 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Johann, and her brothers and sisters. The family is very thankful for all the care Anne Ediger and the other nurses gave to our mother over the last years. The funeral service will be held on Monday, March 27 at 1:30 p.m. at the North Kildonan Mennonite Brethren Church, 1315 Gateway Rd., with viewing prior to the service. Interment will follow right after the service. The family will have a private fellowship meal after.
